What Has Changed with the New 2026 Post-16 Capacity Funding?
Some changes have been made to the way education providers in certain areas apply, and this depends on whether you fall under a devolved or non-devolved authority:
- Non-devolved authorities will see little to no changes to the application process from the last time this funding was available, and can apply via the Department for Education (DfE)
- Devolved authorities, on the other hand, will have to go through local government, where the criteria may have changed
In terms of funding, successful applicants can receive grants starting from £250,000 up to £4 million. The capital can be used to create new teaching and training spaces, build new facilities, upgrade existing estates, or lease temporary accommodation.
