Construction of a mezzanine to St. Bede’s Inter-Church School
Challenge
St. Bede’s Inter-Church School required significantly more teaching space to cope with the demands of an evolving and growing pupillage. Eddisons was able to advise constructing a mezzanine and promised to provide a safe and efficient working environment during the building works.
Creating a building site in the centre of an occupied school also creates noise, dust, segregated work areas, and new health & safety requirements. But the highest priority was undertaken by Eddisons to minimise disruption to the day-to-day running of St. Bede’s.
Solution
Eddisons concentrated a lot of their efforts on project management and CDM design to deliver a considered and detailed plan for the programme of works, which ensured disruption, higher safety risk and noisy works were kept outside of school hours. This was maintained through good communication between contractor, client and consultant.
The end product was a ICT suite on the ground floor and a science lab above on the first floor, all contained within the main school hall.
Results
The works were delivered within three months (May – August 2022) in time for the start of the new school year, on budget with no health and safety issues or recordings.
The existing dead space within the school hall is now transformed into a space where teachers can provide a first class teaching experience to their students at St. Bede’s Inter-Church School.
