What is a Decarbonisation Strategy?
A decarbonisation strategy is a framework that sets out the changes you can make to reduce your school’s carbon emissions. Once we have identified the inefficiencies in your buildings, we can help you determine the most appropriate decarbonisation projects based on your priorities, their impact and your budget.

Why is the Decarbonisation Process Important?
Given the urgency of the climate crisis, decarbonisation has become a priority for every organisation, including those in the education sector. Younger people, particularly, are committed to addressing climate change and expect their learning environments to reflect their sustainability values.
As such, demonstrating a clear commitment to decarbonisation can become a competitive advantage for schools, academies and universities, and a decarbonisation plan can help you get there.
“Decarbonisation strategies are essential for schools to reduce emissions, lower energy costs and create healthier learning environments. Investing in renewable energy, efficiency upgrades and sustainable practices ensures long-term resilience and instils environmental responsibility in future generations.”

How Can I Meet My Decarbonisation Goals?
Without specialist advice, it can be difficult to know which energy efficiency projects will have the biggest impact on your school’s carbon footprint. The building age and condition, old boilers, inefficient lighting, poor insulation, and single pane glazing can be significant factors, and our decarbonisation strategies aim to correct them.
Through surveying your estate, we can create a tailored route map of projects to help you work efficiently towards Net Zero. Our detailed audits also help you establish a clear business case to bid for decarbonisation funding to pay for the projects we identify.

The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) provides grants to help schools within the state education system – local authority nurseries, maintained schools, academies and multi-academy trusts – pay for decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects. Successful applicants receive up to 100% funding.
As the decaronisation process can be complex, there is also a Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF) which provides grants for schools to engage the expert advice required to put decarbonisation methods in place. You can then use their knowledge as the basis for your PSDS funding.
