Replacement of HORSA building at primary school
Challenge
Eddisons was appointed by Launde Academy in Oadby, Leicester, to support a Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) application for the replacement of a deteriorating, post-war HORSA building.
The existing structure was no longer fit for purpose, with ageing fabric and limited suitability for modern teaching requirements. The objective was to deliver a new, traditionally built, two-classroom block to provide a safe, high-quality learning environment for pupils.
Solution
Eddisons prepared and submitted the successful CIF funding bid on behalf of the Academy, securing the financial support needed to progress the project. Following this, the team led the full design process through all RIBA stages, overseeing architectural and technical delivery while ensuring compliance with Department for Education design standards.
Acting as both Contract Administrator and CDM Principal Designer, Eddisons managed the project from inception to completion, coordinating closely with the school’s leadership team to minimise disruption during the works. The new building was constructed by MJE Contracts, with a focus on traditional build quality, long-term durability, and improved energy efficiency compared to the outgoing HORSA block.
Results
The project delivered a modern, purpose-built teaching facility that significantly enhances the learning experience at Launde Academy. The new two-classroom block provides a bright, energy-efficient and flexible space designed to support current and future curriculum needs.
Delivered on time and within budget, the project demonstrates how targeted CIF investment, coupled with effective design and project management, can transform educational facilities.
Thanks to MJE Contracts for their work in successfully delivering the scheme.
